Upper East Side is one of my couples’ favorite destinations for an engagement session in New York City. The Upper East is known for its tree-line elegant streets, historic brownstones and iconic landmarks. It’s relatively less crowded than other recognized neighborhoods and from a first sight offers a visually pleasing setting for relaxed engagement photos.
As Yuka and Jimmy are based in NYC but are getting married in Japan, they wanted to document their special engagement time in the city. We decided to schedule a session for an early Sunday morning in May when the light is still soft and the streets are not busy. Yuka wore a linen Mara Hoffman dress and changed to classic white pants after for a more casual city look.
For an Upper East Side engagement I suggest going for a chic modern look for her: mid- or full-length dress or elegant pantsuit depending on the season. For him I am confident nothing ever looks better than a tailored suit or blazer.
My always to go coffee stop is Ralph’s Coffee on 72nd and Madison and it’s a perfect little break and change of scenery for engagement photos. It does remind me a bit of a chic Parisian cafe, but in its own New York version of it.
